NiagaraSCX 5.0 Provides Flexibility Without Compromising Control

ViewCasts Software Allows Remote Control and Monitoring

Las Vegas April 21, 2006 Plano-based ViewCast Corporation today announced the introduction of NiagaraSCX 5.0, the latest version of its remote control and monitoring software application for Osprey-based encoders.

NiagaraSCX 5.0 software incorporates digital rights management (DRM) for Windows Media, MPEG-4 /H.264 and MPEG-2 encoding standards. The software will be bundled with the Niagara streaming systems and is planned to ship in May 2006.

NiagaraSCX 5.0 offers a tremendous set of tools and capabilities for broadcasters managing a farm of multiple streaming encoders, allowing them to simultaneously view multiple encoders on multiple machines, said Dave Stoner, president and COO of ViewCast. With multiple access methods NiagaraSCX 5.0 explorer and XML programming the software affords greater flexibility and control of encoding parameters like encoding profile, bit rate, capture resolution, capture attributes, preprocessing options and authored information. Users can view and set encoding parameters, start and stop the encoding process and receive notification of identified error conditions with a remote control.

NiagaraSCX allows users to capture broadcasts live, store them to a file and convert MPEG or analog video content to streaming format. The software is meant to benefit those looking for control without compromising on flexibility while managing a large number of encoders.

In addition to Microsofts Windows Media & RealNetworks players, the H.264-capable software can be played on the Apple QuickTime player. The application incorporates DRM for Windows Media CODEC from SyncCast, a California-based company with solutions for delivering digital content and related data via the Internet and other media.

SyncCasts DRM solutions are used by media and broadband companies to protect, transact, and facilitate content acquisition, says Lance Ware, CEO and CTO, SyncCast. Built on Microsofts .NET technology, DRM is an XML/Web service based tool used for managing, ingesting and delivering digital media.
