SimulStream Evaluation Software
Now Available Online!

Try Before You Buy! Enable the Multi-Streaming Capabilities of your Osprey!

Osprey SimulStream is the first premium software upgrade available extending the capabilities of Osprey Video capture cards. SimulStream enables a single Osprey Video card to output multiple instances of audio and video data from a single input source to multiple applications.

SimulStream enables any number of applications to simultaneously access an Osprey device as if each application was the sole user of the device.

For example, any number of WindowsMedia Encoder applications as well as Real System Producer applications can be run at the same time on a single board.

This dramatically improves workflow and increases encoding density for those doing large amounts of streaming at multiple bitrate and/or multiple formats.

Free Trial Version of SimulStream is Available Online!

ViewCast offers a fully functional trial version of SimulStream for you to test multi-streaming capabilities.

IMPORTANT: SimulStream requires that you have an Osprey streaming capture card installed in your system.

To enable SimulStream, you will first need to meet the following requirements:

Live Webcasting with

Customer Success Story

ViewCast Streaming Solution Helps
WLVT-TV Deliver First Live Webcast!

It was four days before Lehigh Valley PBS/WLVT-TV was to launch its first-ever live Webcast - a pre-election debate - when Bill Ziegler, chief technical officer, signed off on the order for his Web-streaming system.

He had seen the product in action, he'd reviewed the sales information on the Web, and he'd spoken to his systems integrator and a ViewCast representative. He knew he had just ordered a high-end plug-and-play streaming solution. What he was about to find out was how well the system would meet the plug-and-play test.

Ziegler ordered ViewCast's Niagara™ 4222RW rack-mount encoder with a ViewCast 5200 server on a Friday. The boxes arrived Wednesday morning, were up and running by Wednesday afternoon, and ready on Thursday to stream the station's news and public affairs magazine program, TEMPO!, which was hosting a live Town Hall with candidates for Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"We needed the ViewCast system to be a turnkey solution for us, and it really was," says Ziegler. "There was no training, no need to look at a manual. I just plugged it in, hooked up the encoder and streaming server, called up tech support for some quick configuration information, and I was done."

Thursday evening, TEMPO! was streamed live in its entirety on the World Wide Web for the first time, reaching not only the Pennsylvania communities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, as well as WLVT-TV audiences in western New Jersey, but also a group of viewers who tuned in via PC at www.wlvt.org. The Niagara system from ViewCast gave the PBS affiliate a smooth entry into the world of live Webcasting.

ViewCast's Niagara family of systems is designed from the ground up to offer reliable turnkey solutions that allow users to implement premium, broadcast-quality audio and video over the Internet or throughout a corporate enterprise quickly, with little need for on-site configuration. WLVT's new Niagara system includes ViewCast's award-winning Osprey digital capture and CODEC boards to provide a powerful yet affordable solution for streaming, archiving, and video production applications.

"What distinguishes our Niagara systems from competing products is that we supply a complex, custom solution in a professional-grade product with plug-and-play capability," says Ed Carabetta, Regional Sales Manager at ViewCast. "When I got the purchase order from Bill, we put the machinery in motion. We had everyone working to build, test, and FedEx WLVT's system so that installation would be as easy as possible. WLVT-TV's engineers had the necessary knowledge to get the system running quickly, and when it was time to put the show on the Web, we were pleased to see that the product met the station's expectations in terms of professional performance."

An integrated solution for real-time encoding of video and audio content, ViewCast's 2U rack-mount Niagara 4222RW is a powerful Intel® Pentium® IV 2/GHz system with two channels of audio and video streaming, as well as advanced video and audio capture card capabilities. Niagara SCX control software provides a unified interface that controls both encoder channels either directly on the encoder or from a remote computer connected to the Niagara via LAN or WAN. When the 4222RW is combined with the Osprey SimulStream, two video sources may be input to create several streams at different bit rates and in different streaming formats including RealNetworks Real Video and Windows Mediaä.

In addition to streaming broadcasts to the Internet, WLVT-TV is using its Niagara system for simultaneous archiving of the station's programming. Though linked to the Internet only during Webcasts of local productions, the system runs continually, providing one-step, seamless archiving.

Following the TEMPO! Webcast, Lehigh Valley PBS President and CEO Patricia Simon shared her enthusiasm for the station's new technology, noting that Web streaming offers another avenue through which public television can serve as a vital resource for the community. Though a modest group of viewers tuned in via the Internet, Ziegler feels he is building a system that will meet the needs of future audiences. As more and more WLVT-TV viewers become aware of this option, he says, they increasingly will begin to watch or listen from their computers at home and at work.

"I've been in IT for a long time, and few things work this well," concludes Ziegler. "We haven't had our ViewCast system that long, but we've been very impressed with how easily it worked. Often, products that merge broadcast with IT look as though they've been thrown together. Over the years that I've been in broadcast, I've seen computer-based systems with off-the-shelf PCs that look like an afterthought. This product, however, looks like it was built to do what it does. ViewCast clearly has put some thought into this design."
