Osprey-2000 DV Pro: mpeg2 Encoding troubles

uuuups     this has been pretty fast!!!   :-)))

Hi smeek!

Thank you for your VERY FAST response!

Well, my video source is a SONY Digital Betacam via SDI in (case1) and a SONY DV DSR-11 via DV in (case2). Both are PAL machines. Capturing in PAL 704x576 RGB32 causes no artifacts or hor. lines (no lost frames with vidcap32).

Yes, Ive set top frame first.

For a better chance of analysis I will send you a video sample tomorrow.

Thanx and good night.

Stefan

Stefan,

Are you saying that if you capture 640x480 rgb32 uncompressed video you do not have any horizontal lines or artifacts in the captured video, but when encoding with the MPEG encoder you do see quality issues in the encoded video. If this is the case then these are not the consistent with results related to DMA overruns. Based on your recommendations for Pal settings I assume you are utilizing a PAL source ? If this is true then you will need to verify that the  top field first is set within the advanced video settings. If you continue to have the same issues after making this change I would ask that you provide a short clip to [email protected] that shows the issues you are having. I monitor our support e-mail very closely and apologize for the lack of response you received on your previous request. If you can forward your original request to [email protected] I will look into why we never provided you with a response to your first inquiry.

Sincerely,

Scott

a further info:

capturing video, even in RGB 32 full resolution, is possible without any problem. So is it really heavy PCI traffic??

a confused mcfid.....

Support and members please help!!

We want to use our Osprey-2000 DV Pro for DVD MPEG2 Encoding, but at the moment its not trouble-free.

The situation:

We are running this card in a DELL Precision 450 Dual XEON Workstation with 2x2,4GHz XEON 1024MB RAM and 2x120GB Harddisks + DVD+R/RW Drive.. OS=Win2000 SP3. Encoding software is the DS Encoder that came with the card.

The Problem: We do not get a cleanly encoded mpeg2 file with a subjectively constant picture quality.

During encoding the encoded picture changes its quality in the rhythm of hard-disk-access :-(. A possible explanation could be: heavy PCI traffic?!?

All the Hard Drives and the DVD burner are connected to the onboard IDE ports in UDMA mode.

question:

1) Is our diagnostic correct and (PCI traffic)

2) If we connected our working hard disk to a 32bit RAID controller in a 64bit PCI slot (2 discs in RAID 0 mode) would this solve our problem?

One further question has risen as well:

What is a good basic encoding setting (advanced video setting) for PAL 4:3 or 16:9 e.g. all the ITU settings or DC precision and all that stuff.......

Im sorry that my email to the viewcast support (with the describtion of this problem) has not been answered for almost one week :-(((. I hope this time it will work!

Thank you in advance

Stefan
