Thank you so much for your rapid response. You hit the nail on the head.

When you said  "The drop down list of possible compression formats are formats that can be compressed given the video capture card's currently selected color format.", that made sense. When I selected YUV12 as you suggested, everything worked fine. I could now select DivX

Thanks again!

The DivX software encoder can be selected by video capture tools like VirtualDub or VidCap32 (to name some freely avail tools). So lets take VidCap32 which is included with the o200 sw install. When you opt to capture video a dialog appears that includes such things as frame rate and wether you want to capture audio or not. There is a button on this dialog called "compress". Select this button and another dialog appears in which you can choose the DivX format. You'll also be able to configure the DivX encoder in this dialog. The drop down list of possible compression formats are formats that can be compressed given the video capture card's currently selected color format. For DivX I'd use either YUV12 or YUV422 (packed YUV) as the color format. If DivX doesn't show up then it could be the color format is wrong or possibly the DivX sw is not installed correctly. Let us know how far you get with this info.

I'm playing around with an Osprey200 and can view video, capture video and use with other applications.

What I want to do now is to capture in a compressed format. There are a number of Codecs indicated, but don't seem to work, and no documentation provided. Eg: Microsoft MPEG4 codec when selected gives an error.

I have a DivX software codec on my system and would like to capture-compress and store video. How do I do this? Are there any sources of documentation for how to use, install-new and select codecs?

thanks
