I just stumbled upon your thread after experiencing the same problem this morning.  I am on the third attempt of encoding a 30-minute program with an Osprey-220 installed in a Gateway E-4200 Pentium III, 128MB, 450MHz.

Despite my older PC specs, I have had many successful encodes with Windows Media Encoder over the last week or two.  I recently upgraded my PC to Windows XP and replaced my old capture card with this one.  It has worked fine until today.

My third attempt just worked and I believe it may be due to the fact that I opened the side of my PC and placed a medium-sized fan next to it to pull out some of the heat.  It has become extremely humid here in Indy over the last several days.  Humidity can create interesting artifacts in electronics.

So, I have more encoding to do this week.  We'll see if the fan is a consistent fix.

Until next time...

Do either a screen snapshot (then paste into paint then zip the file) or create an AVI file of a few frames, perhaps a few AVI files w/ different color formats and then post these on our ftp server in incoming (ftp.ospreyvideo.com/incoming) then email [email protected] and let them know they are there.

As for your problem, we've seen one instance of poor video (power noise) and it turned out to be related to the host machine's 3.3V power supply w/ which the o230 get's it power. However, this was on an older machine. Anyway, let us take a look and we'll let you know what we think.

I've read some of the other posts regarding bad video, but the other problems people are listing seem more drastic than mine, so here it goes.  I've got a Osprey 230 card in a Dell Precsion 650 w dual Pent 2.4  The speed is great and the capture is mostly great except for when there is a graphic type background. In normal video everything appears fine, but if I get to a graphic with a flat color background or when looking at color bars, I see a lot of scrolling video noise in the background. Changing the color type can make it a little better or worse, but does not fix it. Using Osprey's capture software does yield better results than using Windows Media Encoder, but does not fix it entirely.  I see it at 320x240 as well as 640x480. I've tried composite input with a few different cables and  the s-video input. I've tried the card in different slots. I've uninstalled and installed the latest drivers.  I don't know if this is the board, the computer, or possibly an electrical interference of somekind. Any ideas anyone?  I'm frustrated and out of ideas.   Thanks  John
