The Osprey-1000 RealNetworks G2 video codec includes all the features of the Osprey-1000 and also features the industry's only hardware encoder for RealNetworks G2 - the Osprey G2 Hardware Encoder. The Osprey G2 Hardware Encoder offloads the bulk of the encoding process from the CPU enabling either multiple Osprey-1000 cards per system (up to six) or using the CPU for additional simultaneous tasks. The Osprey-1000 RealNetworks G2 can encode RealNetworks G2 video and audio at CIF or QCIF sized images.  It also encodes at a variety of bit rates ranging from 20-500kbps.

Stability Across Platforms
ViewCast.com has a history of being the first to provide video card support for new operating systems and OS features. As a result, you gain earlier access to a stable product with proven interoperability. The Osprey-1000 was the first to offer Windows NT support (in March, 1996) and the first to take advantage of DirectDraw in NT 4.0. Currently, the Osprey-1000 RealNetworks G2 runs under Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0 (with DirectDraw Support).

The Heart of the Osprey
The Osprey-1000 includes all the vital elements of a strong video subsystem architecture:  A highly-integrated video compression engines, a high-speed interface to the host bus and versatility -- video input to the card can be either NTSC or PAL, composite or S-VIDEO. Osprey Architecture

Audio compression can be performed by either the on-board DSP or by the video processor (depending on the type of compression required).

Perhaps best of all, the Osprey-1000's architecture is practical -- the PCI and S-Bus versions of the card use the same video and audio processing logic--only the bus interface logic is different. The Osprey-1000 incorporates the following physical interfaces:

Host
1/2 slot PCI bus Single-width S-Bus

Video
Two analog video inputs (NTSC or PAL, composite and S-Video) one analog video output (NTSC or PAL). Note: used only for decompressed video; not a general purpose video out

Audio
Line in, mic in, line out, headphone out
