Viewcast Technology Streams Gates Comments Live From Denmark Conference

BusinessCast uses Osprey Video cards to stream live content onto the Web

LONDON (Feb 12, 2001) - Denmark's BusinessCast, a leading managed application hosting provider, used ViewCast's market-leading Osprey streaming board technology to stream the content of a Feb. 2 presentation by Microsoft CEO Bill Gates live over the Internet. BusinessCast utilized ViewCast's Osprey-100 and Osprey-500 video capture cards to capture and encode the streaming video for the conference.

The streaming presentation can be seen on BusinessCast's web-TV site, ScoopStation.com, as well as on Microsoft's site.

"Internet streaming is a growing phenomenon and our technology is being used in most instances to power those streams. For the business market, Bill Gates has great appeal and we expect a large amount of interest in his presentations from around the globe," said Peter Taylor, managing director for EMEA of ViewCast. "We believe people are becoming much more comfortable with this mode of communication and that streaming video content will explode this year and then beyond. By partnering with companies like BusinessCast which have the skill and experience to facilitate and manage these events, we aim to become the industry de facto for streaming systems."

"Streaming video is an innovative and exciting area in which to be involved. We are working closely with ViewCast to ensure that we are able to deliver the best quality possible over the Internet at any particular time. We have confidence in the Osprey technology, which is well tried and tested in this field. We anticipate getting more involved in projects of this kind where knowledge and experience of the Internet video streaming arena is required. We can deliver a complete solution to the customer so that they need only worry about the conference itself and not the broadcasting issues," said Michael Meister of BusinessCast.

The Osprey-100 is known as the de facto standard in the industry for streaming broadcasts, long recommended by Microsoft for use with Windows Media. The Osprey-500 is the industry's first digital video capture card dedicated for streaming applications, delivering high-quality digital video to Windows Media encoders. It was developed in conjunction with Microsoft, and is tightly integrated with Windows Media 7 encoding tools.
