ViewCast's Interactive Video Network Revolutionizes Video Sourcing, Management, and Delivery
New ViewCast IVN Solution Integrates All Video Systems into a Single Video Switching and Delivery Environment, Streamlining Operations in Broad Range of Applications
DALLAS
— June 9, 2004 — In a groundbreaking move to unite the sourcing, management, and delivery of video within a single control environment, ViewCast Corporation (OTCBB:VCST - News) today announced the launch of its Interactive Video Network (IVN). A revolutionary approach to integrating multiple video applications, ViewCast IVN brings diverse technologies and interfaces together in one simple, highly tailored solution, thereby transforming local and global video networks into a dynamic video communications platform.
"The systems used to source and deliver video in commercial applications continue to be marketed and implemented as discrete units, with separate infrastructures and user interfaces, and with little or no integration," said George Platt, president & CEO. "These varied systems are unified under our ViewCast IVN technology, which offers users intuitive and appropriate interfaces that streamline operations while meeting the demands of even the most complex facilities and organizations."
For a typical business user, ViewCast IVN integrates virtually any form of video communication into a single environment, all controlled with simple and intuitive user interfaces. "Without getting up from my desk, I can view the latest news on the broadcast financial channels, check to see if a visitor has arrived in the lobby, instantly create one-to-one video conferences, add in additional users on-the-fly, and even stream or multicast live discussions to any number of participants anywhere in the world," continued Platt.
User convenience is further enhanced by mobility features that let users log in at remote locations to place and receive video connections via convenient Web-based controls. Traveling employees can log in from their hotel rooms with simple laptop webcams, or from offices with conventional videoconference equipment, and still enjoy a complete video experience.
ViewCast IVN seamlessly integrates technologies that source, switch, distribute, and manage live and stored video assets in applications including videoconferencing, on-site video distribution, distance learning, video resource sharing, and personal video communication for education, finance, government and business institutions.
For example, ViewCast IVN can provide a complete video solution for K-12 educational facilities "whereby educators can schedule and deliver stored educational video playback, schedule and deliver remote teaching sessions from any classroom, bring in outside subject matter experts, stream content to homebound students, monitor hallway security video, and connect to live broadcast channels, instantly, right from the classroom.
ViewCast IVN network nodes can be deployed wherever needed and networked together via video "trunks." The two-way transport can take almost any form - from low-bandwidth H.323, H.320, H.264, or even MPEG riding on a corporate LAN or WAN to full-motion, uncompressed video over dedicated or shared fiber networks. Virtually any available video delivery method can be used in any combination, with ViewCast IVN software managing the video transport resources automatically. The user is completely unaware of whether the video is carried via TCP/IP, ISDN, or via any other available means.
Components in the ViewCast IVN family serve as video building blocks that can be interconnected to create a custom video solution optimized for the user or facility's workflow and business needs. ViewCast IVN's PC-based custom control systems meet the requirements of each "class" of user, providing the necessary functionality while eliminating the need to understand or interact with underlying technologies.
ViewCast IVN further simplifies operations through seamless integration with other control mechanisms such as AMX and Crestron. ViewCast IVN networks are directly controlled by users via touch panels, Web pages, and PC clients. The same network resources may also be controlled by media schedulers, event schedulers, or other applications as needed via ViewCast IVN's robust Remote Control Interface. Sample applications included in the ViewCast IVN software development kit include an inbound video call center with web browser synchronization.
