Viewcast Unveils Niagara Streaming Systems

New Product Line Provides Ready-to-Go Streaming for Corporations and Broadcasters

DALLAS (Dec. 12, 2000) –Viewcast, Inc. (NASDAQ: VCST), a leading provider of Internet and networked video solutions, today announced a new product line, Niagara Streaming Systems, a family of new turnkey, rack-mounted streaming solutions for businesses. ViewCast will demonstrate the Niagara Streaming System family for the first time Dec. 12-14 in Booth No. 609 at the Streaming Media West 2000 exhibition at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif.

Businesses want to be able to take advantage of the efficiencies of streaming communications technologies to communicate their corporate messages or provide network-based training, but they want a system that provides ease-of-use and fits within their existing network and intranet infrastructure. ViewCast’s new Niagara Streaming Systems deliver plug-and-play streaming solutions that integrate seamlessly with enterprise networks, servers and clients,” said George Platt, ViewCast president and chief executive officer.

We’re very excited about Niagara as it was developed with extensive customer input. This new family of turnkey streaming systems will enable businesses to quickly add rich media content to their web sites with cutting-edge streaming technology from ViewCast,” Platt added.

ViewCast Niagara Streaming Systems are pre-configured, integrated solutions that comes in industry-standard rack-mounted configurations (1U, 2U or 4U) or as a unique portable system targeted for remote Webcasting of live events. Niagara is the first streaming system to utilize ViewCast’s recently announced Osprey-220 professional analog A/V capture cards. The ViewCast Osprey suite of capture boards are widely considered the streaming industry’s de facto standard, and the new Osprey-220 adds audio-quality enhancements that enable CD-quality audio and professional analog capture of video and audio signals for the leading streaming media applications. The Osprey-220 complements recent industry improvements in streaming audio technology, and extends the widely recognized leadership of ViewCast’s Osprey product line for streaming media applications.

The ViewCast Niagara Streaming System is an ideal platform for corporations, broadcasters, production houses, Internet ASPs, and broadcasters who are called on to repurpose broadcast content. The Niagara Streaming System product family has nearly limitless business applications for almost every conceivable vertical market, including B2B video collaboration; Internet broadcasting; surveillance/security; distance learning; healthcare/telemedicine; encoding/production services, live Webcasting and many others.

With reliable, fully-tested platforms and pre-loaded software, businesses need do little more than plug a Niagara system into their existing network to start taking advantage of audio and video streaming in their own digital video applications,” said Platt.

Niagara, which offers complete system-level solutions for on-demand and streaming content production, is compatible with most consumer and professional A/V input devices including cameras, VCR’s and VTR’s. These systems come equipped with either RealProducer Plus V8 or (when configured with the Osprey-500 card) Windows Media Encoder V7 streaming encoder applications. With the Osprey-220 onboard, content producers enjoy optimal quality encoding and can monitor audio levels as they are recorded for professional-quality Webcasts. Depending on the configuration, the flexible and efficient ViewCast streaming technology employed by the Niagara Streaming System family enables various multiple streams in one system at different bitrates.
