I'm trying to use a camera thru my Ospray capture card as a "web cam" in MSN Messenger 6.2, but it's not finding the camera.  I think the card is controlling the camera and Messenger can't gain access to it.  Can anyone help?

Running Windows 2000 SP4....using Ospray 210 thru the video input (yellow), with a Sony security camera SSC-DC393

Batwood, check this MS knowledge base entry:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;81 1041

Does it apply to your situation?

Can you view video from your camera in any other app?

I wasn't able to view this link even by removing the space.  If you're still having problems, Batwood, try ViewCast's WDM drivers (3.x.x and higher).  If you're not using Windows XP or for some reason don't want to upgrade then the following is from the FAQ site...

To WORKAROUND the problem where an Osprey device cannot be used with Windows Messenger on XP systems you must perform the following tasks:

1. Go to the Windows Update site, http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

2. Click "Scan for updates"

3. After the scan for updates is complete click "Pick updates to install">"Windows XP" then add "Q323322: Recommended Update"

a. For more information on this patch visit

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q323 322

"This problem may occur because the Dxmrtp.dll file that is included in Windows Messenger ignores an internal video camera". Note that this file cannot be installed by going directly to this link without requesting the file from support and paying support charges. Going directly to the update site does allow direct download, however.

4. Add "Q318966: Recommended Update"

a. For more about this patch visit

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q318 966

"Problems Viewing, Editing, or Printing Some Images in Windows XP." This file may also be downloaded directly from this link.

5. Add "Windows Messenger Audio Update"

a. For more about this patch (Q316397) visit

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q316 397&

"Real-Time Communication (RTC) client communications may not work if the client is located behind a Network Address Translation (NAT) device)." This file may also be downloaded directly from this link.

6. Click "Review and install updates" and remove all selected updates EXCEPT the 3 above.

Then click "Install now".

NOTE: If you do not want to use the automatic update tool and choose to install the updates manually please note that they MUST be installed in the following order, Q316397, Q318966, and Q323322.

7. Start Windows Messenger and click the Tools menu>Audio Tuning Wizard. When selecting the camera device select where there is no text. You should see "None", then a blank line, then a listing of installed devices. Select the blank line, then "Next". If the patch updates are successful you will see your video from your default Osprey device in the preview window and can continue with the tuning wizard.
