ViewCast.com Signs Alliance with Virage, Combines RealNetworks G2 Encoder and Virage VideoLogger in Single ViewCast System
DALLAS(BUSINESS WIRE)June 21, 1999ViewCast.com (Nasdaq:VCST - news), a leading provider of Internet video solutions, today announced an alliance with Virage, Inc., the leading developer of video cataloging and search products.
Based on the terms of the agreement, ViewCast.com will integrate the Virage VideoLogger(TM) and AudioLogger(TM) with its ViewCast® streaming video solutions, resulting in a ViewCast Encoding/Logging Station.
"Virage products are in use by dozens of organizations in a wide range of markets. These customers routinely request a one-box solution for their video needs," said Paul Lego, CEO of Virage, Inc. "With the integration of VideoLogger and AudioLogger into the ViewCast system, we can now point them to a single, turnkey product."
ViewCast systems are fully configured, turnkey encoding stations and streaming servers that enable corporations, government agencies, schools and organizations to quickly and easily add live and on-demand streaming video to their networks and Web sites. With the new Osprey G2 Hardware Encoder, ViewCast Encoding Stations offer features and performance no other system can match encoding up to six live video feeds in a single Windows NT workstation. By offloading the work from the CPU, this hardware encoder allows a single system for the first time, to do both encoding and cataloging.
Virage's VideoLogger "watches, listens to and reads" video in real time to intelligently extract information such as keyframes, time codes, closed captions and teletext. User-defined clips and annotations can also supplement the information. This produces a rich, frame-accurate index that provides immediate access to any part of the video, in the same way that a card catalog unlocks the wealth of knowledge in a library. The AudioLogger adds audio classification, speech recognition and speaker identification to the index.
Now, Fortune 1000 companies, government agencies, universities every organization with video content can access a single, total solution to stream, store, search, analyze and catalogue their video content.
Searchable video offers organizations a number of benefits over raw video. Some of those key benefits include:
Increasing productivity by eliminating hours wasted searching for video
Reducing cost by decreasing personnel time spent looking for video and eliminating unnecessary tape duplication and mailing
Improving decision making processes by providing entire organizations with easy access to the information contained in video
Expanding revenue opportunities by leveraging video in entirely new ways
Improving communications with customers and employees by publishing interactive video on the Internet or corporate intranet
"The new ViewCast Logging Station enables organizations not only to create network streaming video but to make it more usable by making it searchable," said Neal Page, Vice President of ViewCast.com. "This enhances the value of an already valuable asset it means clients can find the segment of video they want just as they might search for the text they need in a document. The possibilities are endless."
The ViewCast Video Encoder/Logger is available now. Pricing for a complete encoding and cataloging system begins at $29,995. ViewCast systems and bundles are available from ViewCast.com's existing network of resellers, systems integrators, distributors and VARS worldwide.
