Orange Studio Implements Video-Enabled Smart Meeting Venue With Viewcast

First of its kind to offer value-added services to customers, while reducing its own internal cost of operations

DALLAS (Nov. 6, 2000) To ensure that it stays at the forefront of technology demands from exhibition and conferencing delegates, the Orange Studio, a conference-and-event venue in Birmingham, England, has implemented a video networking system based on technology from Viewcast (Nasdaq:VCST), a leading provider of Internet and networked video solutions.

The Orange Studio is the first smart venue in Birmingham to offer extended support services, from simple office functions to high-tech video conferencing with full office networking facilities. This unique venue delivers video-enabled smart suites that are truly scaleable, accommodating from one-to-220 people. The diversity of technologies embodied within ViewCasts Viewpoint VBX enables Oranges users to film or playback personalized video information via a choice of visual displays, including flat panel screens, professional, big screen audio-visual projectors or standard computer monitors.

The Orange Studio uses the same system for internal staff training. This is achieved with a combination of internal video broadcasts over the companys networking infrastructure, with virtual video-assisted meetings where personnel can watch and review such things as video-based advertising for Oranges products or services.

Its essential that Orange Studio is able to offer our clients a full range of data and video products that compliment our core mobile telephony business, said Mark Watts, new business development manager for the Orange Studio. Video now delivers that extra dimension to our communications infrastructure. We chose to work with Viewcast because they had a full range of high quality video products that satisfied our need for scalable video communications and distribution.

Watts added, Key decision points for us were the telephone style graphical user interface that ensured ease-of-use for our customers along with the central management and administration of the system for measuring usage and billing purposes. Also, we were relieved to find that the Viewcast video network design did not force us to upgrade our whole backbone network, as did other solutions we explored. Instead, the video network is simply overlaid on the existing structured Cat 5 wiring.

Customers of the Orange Studio may use the video-enabled facilities to save on travel costs and time. In addition, the company has the ability to have its own internal Video Broadcast Network for internal product announcements, major company briefings, etc.

The efficiency of video communications presents a compelling argument for implementing this type of infrastructure in any sizeable company, said Peter Taylor, managing director, EMEA, for Viewcast. The ever-decreasing costs of wide-area bandwidth means that more and more organizations are turning towards video tools to give them a competitive edge and save money in the process.
