Big Brother Europe Comes To You Courtesy Of Streaming Technology Leader Viewcast.com

Partnering with Real Networks, ViewCast.com brings Big Brother to global Internet audience

ENGLAND (Oct. 3, 2000) ViewCast.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: VCST), a leading provider of Internet and network video solutions, in partnership with Real Networks, has enabled 8.5 million UK viewers to feed their obsession for Big Brother antics. The hugely popular live soap was streamed live over the Internet using ViewCast.coms Osprey video cards, which provided the actual conversion of high-quality TV images to digital format for streaming and viewing over the Internet.

The Big Brother project is a phased implementation that is expected to move across Europe. ViewCast.com has already worked with Big Brother in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands and is now working with Big Brother in Belgium to provide a similar infrastructure. ViewCast.com plans to bring this winning combination to other European countries.

In the UK, Big Brother is broadcast online 24 hours a day, seven days a week over a sustained period with millions of regular viewers. The UK Web site was designed and built by Victoria Real, an award-winning digital media company based in Brighton.

When planning Big Brother we knew that we had to have a completely robust system as we would be streaming 24 hours a day for over 64 days. We chose Osprey cards to convert the TV signals into RealVideo format because they have been proved time and again to be the industry standard for streaming video, said Mark Baynes, Big Brother producer at Victoria Real.

The Big Brother project has been a resounding success on all fronts. It has been instrumental in establishing the Internet as a worldwide vehicle for broadcasting and we expect it to be the next big broadcast medium. There are already several other programs being developed and aired along this very theme. As the Osprey technology is now proven to work effectively in this arena, we anticipate a great deal more demand for the product over the coming months and years. The combination of our high-quality streaming hardware and the software from Real Networks is a powerful one and we look forward to bringing more Internet soaps such as Big Brother to the global Internet viewers, said Peter Taylor, Managing Director, EMEA, for ViewCast.com.
