ViewCast.com Ships Version 2.5 Viewpoint VBX Software
Versatile Video Communications Solution Gains Additional Flexibility with New Release
DALLAS (Sept. 12, 2000) ViewCast.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: VCST), a leading provider of networked video solutions, today announced the shipment of Version 2.5 Viewpoint VBX Software. This system-wide software update significantly expands the Viewpoint VBXs functionality and adds several new features, including H.323 call capability, popular third-party codec integration, high-quality MPEG-2 capabilities and an Internet Video Call Center toolkit.
"Market research and discussions with our financial services and corporate clients indicated that they need the ability to use their high-speed data backbones for video communications. We developed our H.323 solution to meet their needs," said ViewCast.com Product Manager Rick Pittson. Adding the standards-based H.323 codec capability to the Viewpoint VBX System allows high-quality video communication across existing data infrastructures without the need to add additional telecom circuits. "This will save businesses the added cost of additional telecom circuits and allow businesses to conduct impromptu, yet important, face-to-face meetings without the hassle and expense of traveling," Pittson added.
"Version 2.5 makes the most versatile video communications solution on the market even more versatile," said ViewCast.com President and Chief Executive Officer George Platt. "The flexibility of the updated Viewpoint VBX system and software allows worldwide communication over a variety of standards, platforms and diverse systems. The latest ViewCast.com technology enables businesses to utilize video communications anytime, anywhere and over almost any platform, at the quality level they need."
The Viewpoint VBX is an enterprise-wide video communication system that enables desktops and conference rooms to access a choice of video communication resources. The Viewpoint VBX server and codec array supports a number of video communication standards, including H.323 (video over TCP/IP networks), MPEG-2 (maximum quality video over TCP/IP networks), and H.320 (video over ISDN), in addition to NTSC and PAL interfaces for connection of commercial and consumer A/V devices.
Version 2.5 adds H.323 video call capability with the customer's choice of codecs, using either ViewCast's Osprey 1000 card or the popular Polycom ViewStation to enable video communication over the Internet and local area networks. MPEG-2 support has also been added using the Minerva VNP MPEG-2 codec, giving users the option of utilizing high quality MPEG-2 video for communication between VBX Systems. This extends the VBX philosophy of offering users a choice of either cost effective ViewCast products or industry-leading third party products. Version 2.5 includes an Internet Video Call Center toolkit. This toolkit enables users to build Internet Video Call Center capabilities into their e-commerce/e-business solutions. It can also be used by developers of Call Center software to add video call management to existing voice call centers, enhancing personal contact between companies and their customers.
The ViewCast.com Viewpoint VBX Version 2.5 is shipping worldwide the week of Sept. 15, 2000.
