ViewCast.com Professional Osprey-500 Now Available for International Shipment
Professional Osprey SDI and DV Capture Card Optimized Exclusively for the Windows Media Format
DALLAS (Sept. 6, 2000) ViewCast.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: VCST), a leading provider of Internet and network video solutions, today announced that the new Osprey-500 family of professional-grade video capture cards are now available for international shipment. The Osprey-500 has been designed specifically for the capture of broadcast-quality digital video for streaming media.
The Osprey-500 product line, developed by ViewCast.coms Osprey Technologies Division, has been optimized exclusively to support the Microsoft Windows Media Format with cooperation from Microsofts Digital Media Division. These products are available for shipment into Europe and other international markets which require CE Mark certification and PAL support. The Osprey-500 is the first capture card to be tightly integrated with the new Windows Media Technologies 7 Encoder and Format for audio and video streaming.
"Professional broadcasters have been anxiously waiting for a capture card with the capabilities of the Osprey-500, and the initial reaction by U.S. customers and Beta testers in Europe and other international markets has been overwhelmingly positive," said Brian Dean, ViewCast.com vice president of marketing. Michael Bussler, CEO for Algor, Inc., said, "Based on our testing, the Osprey-500 is heads and shoulders above any boards weve ever used. Its a fantastic product."
"Microsoft has worked closely with ViewCast.com on its prototypes over the past year to ensure Osprey customers will be able to take full advantage of our breakthrough Windows Media 7 audio and video quality," said Kevin Unangst, group product manager, Digital Media Division, Microsoft Corp. "The new Osprey-500 family clearly offers industry-leading card design and will finally provide broadcasters and content creators with the pure end-to-end digital video quality they need for broadcast streaming."
According to Neal Page, vice president and general manager of ViewCast.com's Osprey Video Division, the Osprey-500 family removes video-quality degradation caused by the multi-step video-conversion process of prior first-generation capture cards and software. "Integrated with direct capture in Windows Media 7 Format, the Osprey-500 family creates 'pure' end-to-end digital video for streaming. Its a simple case of quality-in, quality-out."
The Osprey-500 family, with integrated Windows Media support, delivers the industry's first capture card designed specifically to overcome the direct capture problems and file size barriers broadcasters face when converting their professional-quality digital video to a high-quality Internet digital video stream. The Osprey-500 features SDI or DV digital video inputs, and supports AES/EBU digital stereo audio input as well. This collaboration between ViewCast.com and Microsoft represents a major milestone for professional broadcasters, because it enables them to target Internet-based audiences with the same high-quality digital content they have created for the broadcast domain. It also allows anyone with a digital video (DV) camera or professional SDI video source to plug into the world of streaming media without any loss in quality.
